What is Integrative Relational therapy?

  • Integrative

A good therapist adapts their approach to you: when this is explicitly the intention, this style of therapy is known as “integrative”. This means taking the elements of different psychotherapeutic approaches, rather than applying one set regime. Working with you I will draw on a range of different psychotherapeutic approaches, responding to you, and what is called for in the moment.

  • Relational

Therapy often concerns the past relationships that have brought you to where you are now, and the ongoing relationships in your life with others and with yourself. “Relational” therapy recognises this, and accordingly deeply considers relationships, including the one between you and me.

Narrating your story and describing how it feels for you to share it with me in a safe space enables you to be “seen”. It opens up parts of yourself which, in order to cope with life, you maybe have had to conceal, protect or fragment. In this way, long-standing patterns can surface and in our work together be changed.

  • Therapy

Therapy isn’t about fixing you; it is about helping you experience yourself and your relationships differently - with acceptance, more openness and compassion.
